The 2015 Beber Camp College Road Trip! 4 States - 4 Days

What an amazing trip it was! Joel Bennett and Michael Wax spent an incredible few days traveling the Midwest in a RV (Recreational Vehicle). We had two purposes for the trip. The first was to participate in camp fairs in Columbus and Cincinnati. The second was to connect with our Beber staff and alumni at four Big Ten colleges around the Midwest. The trip began on Thursday, October 22nd where we picked up our 30 foot RV from Cruise America. It was both of our first time in an RV and we were impressed with all of the amenities. here were 2 comfortable queen size beds, refrigerator, cooktop burners, microwave oven, furnace and air conditioning, and shower! A great home for 4 nights! Our first night we parked at D&W Lake Camping and RV Park in Champaign, IL, just minutes from campus. It was extra special for Michael to be back at his alma mater - The University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. The following day we had a great tour from current students and alumni Micah Fishman and Jamie Yong. They gave an incredible tour and we ended with lunch at Papa Dells pizza. There we met Jamie Gorden, Rachel Bass, Zoe Levin, Zach and Danny Farber. It was fantastic to connect with our staff who were excited to share stories from previous summers and for them to learn about some of what is in store for 2016!Bloomington, Indiana was the next stop. It was a beautiful drive to Indiana University where the tree leaves were on full display in all of their fall colors. We arrived right in time for dinner at Opie Taylors and had a great time with Alanna Gilbert, Sarah Wasserman, Henry Strull, Micahel Schwartz, Tobie Lapin, and Mel Weinstein. The weather was perfect and we toured the campus after dinner. Visiting the Sample Gates and laying down watching the lights at the Art Museum were real highlights for us! The next morning we met up with some of the staff from the night before and also had Ari Feldman, Naomi Benchell and Josh Tarnoff meet us at Bloomington Bagel.Following the breakfast, our next stop was The Ohio State University. Campus was massive and the you could feel the excitement building throughout the day for the Buckeye game against Rutgers that night. We enjoyed the sights of campus, including the stadium and Union. The real highlight, however, was dinner with so many of our staff and alumni. Joining us at Condado Taco’s were Ally Perbohner, Maya Levine, Emily Manchik, Michael Arato, Jake Wilk, Jonas Gallanaitis, Jeremy Diamond, Allison Gross, Dani Phillips, Zoe Farkas, Elanna and Elissa Rosner. Ohio State wins the prize for most current staff! After spending the night on campus, we headed to Congregation Tifereth Israel in Columbus for a camp fair. Following the fair, we then went to Graeter’s Ice Cream where we spent time with a new camper from Columbus! We departed Columbus for Cincinnati for another camp fair at Congregation Adath Israel. It was great to connect with some of our current campers and alumni at this fair. At the end of the camp fair we were on the road again to Toledo, Ohio where we parked at our world famous Art Director Amy LK’s home.On our final morning of the trip, we had a great breakfast with Amy and her family and then headed to our last destination, Ann Arbor, Michigan and the University of Michigan. Brandon Carney met us early for a great tour of campus. After the tour we met up with Emma Gewurz and Hannah Schreiber and we ate lunch at Zingerman’s Deli!It was a great adventure and very successful as we were able to spread the new about Beber Camp throughout the Midwest. Be sure to view the Snapchat story that has been converted to a video version of the trip! Looking forward to next year!Michael & Joel
