Mitzvot That Make a Difference: Celebrating Beber’s 2026 Mitzvah Projects

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a meaningful milestone in a young person’s Jewish journey, an opportunity to celebrate becoming more connected to Jewish tradition, community, and responsibility. At Beber Camp, we believe that a mitzvah is about connection and belonging: connecting people to one another, strengthening community, and deepening Jewish identity.

As campers approach their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, many choose to take on a mitzvah project as a way to give back and make a positive impact. For some, that means choosing Beber Camp, their “home away from home,” as the focus of their project. This summer, we were incredibly fortunate to have three members of the Beber community choose camp as the home of their mitzvah projects, each creating a lasting impact in their own unique way.

Avery Goldwin: Bringing Jewish Tradition to Camp

Avery created personalized mezuzahs for Beber Camp, helping bring Jewish tradition into the everyday spaces where our campers and staff live, learn, and grow. The mezuzahs are now displayed throughout the Perlman Village side of camp, where campers, staff, alumni, and our guests will be able to see and engage with them for years to come. Beyond being beautiful additions to camp, they serve as meaningful reminders of our Jewish identity and help create a stronger sense of belonging throughout our community.

Matthew Hirsch: Helping Make Camp Possible

As part of his mitzvah project, Matthew made a donation to support the Beber Camp Scholarship fund, which helps ensure that campers who want to experience Beber can have the opportunity to join our community. His generosity will help make it possible for more young people to experience the friendships, growth, Jewish joy, and unforgettable summers that make Beber so special.

Marinella Silver: A Mitzvah from One Generation of Leaders to the Next

This summer, we were also proud to see a member of our staff community undertake a mitzvah project for Beber. Marinella (Pio Leader, 2026), donated two mezuzahs to Beber Camp as part of her mitzvah project. The mezuzahs will be placed in the Moadon, our teen space, creating a meaningful connection between Jewish tradition and the space where some of our oldest campers gather, build friendships, and develop as young leaders.
