One of the most remarkable things about camp is something that's easy to overlook until you step back and notice it: our campers are fully present.
For weeks at a time, they live without phones, notifications, endless scrolling, or the pressure to capture every moment. Instead, they simply experience those moments. Conversations aren't interrupted by buzzing pockets. Meals are filled with laughter instead of screens. Friendships grow through eye contact, shared adventures, and countless hours spent together rather than through group chats or social media.
There is something incredibly refreshing about watching young people be exactly where they are. Whether they're cheering at Maccabiah, laughing during a hobby, sitting around the hammock park during GA, or simply talking while walking back to their cabin, they're giving one another their full attention. Those moments may seem ordinary, but they're becoming increasingly rare in today's world.
Perhaps that's one of camp's greatest gifts. We don't just give campers a break from technology, we give them the opportunity to reconnect with the people around them, to notice the beauty of the moment they're in, and to discover that the best memories aren't always the ones you record on a phone. Sometimes they're the ones you simply live.

Today marked the beginning of our second week of hobbies! The weather was absolutely beautiful as we kicked off an incredible day of waterskiing, moviemaking, challenge course, ceramics, 3D printing, outdoor cooking, and so much more. I had the opportunity to visit a variety of hobbies as I made my way around camp, and it was a joy to spend time with campers as they connected through laughter, creativity, and shared passions. Days like today are a wonderful reminder of how camp helps campers discover new interests, deepen friendships, and create lasting memories.
We kicked off the morning with a well-earned sleep-in after Maccabiah, followed by a 9:00 a.m. breakfast of pancakes. Lunch featured quesadillas and poke bowls, and for dinner, our incredible kitchen team served sloppy joes to cap off another great day at camp.
Tonight, all of camp gathered in Crown Hall to watch the Staff Talent Show! We had fourteen acts featuring not only counselors, but also many members of our kitchen and programming teams. It fills me with pride every time I see our kehilah kedoshah in action, and tonight was one of those moments. Watching campers cheer on the staff members who care for them in so many different ways was a beautiful reminder of the strength, warmth, and joy of our kehilah kedoshah.
As I looked around Crown Hall tonight, I felt incredibly grateful that our campers have the opportunity to be fully present in moments like these. Free from the distractions of everyday life, they are able to immerse themselves in friendship, laughter, and the simple joy of being together. These shared experiences are what make camp so special, reminding us that the strongest communities are built not only through the big milestones, but through evenings spent cheering one another on, celebrating each other's gifts, and simply enjoying being together.
