Slow down, you crazy child
And take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while
It's all right, you can afford to lose a day or two, ooh
When will you realize Vienna waits for you?

Replace the word “Vienna” with “Beber Camp,” and it’s as if the artist wrote these lyrics for today! After months of preparation and anticipation, it was amazing to see the sun shining over a Hobby Wheel Field filled with hellos, hugs, and happiness. Campers counted down the months, days, and even hours, and the journey of a thousand smiles began again at Beber with an incredible first day of First Session 2026.

The first day of camp is a big one. It brings excitement, joy, and, reasonably, some nerves. Every single one of our campers was met with zeal and compassion today as our wonderful counselors helped each camper settle in. From Makor on lower camp to our Teen Leadership in The Ville, from the waterfront to the hammock park, there was a feeling of excitement in every corner of camp. Whether it is your camper’s first summer away from home or they return to Beber year after year, we are so honored and excited to have them here!

As I drifted around camp today, I felt the buzzing energy everywhere. As new friendships began to form and old friends reunited, camp came alive in the most beautiful way. Cabins echoed with laughter, campers eagerly unpacked their belongings, and counselors helped transform bunks into cozy summer homes. One of the most special parts of Beber’s opening day is watching campers settle into the rhythm of camp life. Within just a few hours, nervous introductions turned into animated conversations. Campers explored their new surroundings, met cabinmates, and began building the connections that often become some of the most meaningful friendships of their lives. There is something magical about seeing a group of young people arrive as strangers and begin, almost immediately, to create a community together.

Of course, today was not just about unpacking bags and finding bunks. It was about beginning a new adventure. Every summer brings opportunities to try something new, discover hidden talents, and create memories that will last long after the final “Bless this House” has been sung. Whether campers are looking forward to swimming, athletics, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, song sessions, or simply spending time with friends, there is so much ahead to be excited about.

As the sun began to set on our first day together, the energy around camp remained high. Smiles were everywhere, conversations flowed easily, and the ruach of Beber was unmistakable. It was a reminder of why summer camp is such a special place: a place where young people can unplug, be themselves, grow in confidence, and experience the joy of living fully in the moment.

Today marked the beginning of another unforgettable summer, and if the first day is any indication, First Session 2026 is going to be something truly special. We cannot wait to see the friendships, achievements, laughter, and memories that will unfold in the days and weeks ahead.

Beber Camp was waiting, and today, it came to life once again. Thank you all for being part of our sacred community, our kehilah kedoshah.

With gratitude,
Michael
