One of the things that makes friendships at Beber so special is that they don't happen by accident. While school friendships often grow out of sitting next to the same classmates or seeing the same people every day, camp creates opportunities for connections in a very different way.
Every day, campers spend time with their cabins, choose hobbies alongside new peers, join Mishpacha groups across ages, cheer together at all-camp programs, and experience adventures that simply don't exist anywhere else. Along the way, counselors intentionally introduce campers to one another, encourage everyone to join in, and help make sure no one feels left on the outside.
The result is that friendships at camp often form more quickly and more deeply than people expect. There is something powerful about sharing a laugh around a campfire, celebrating a new accomplishment on the waterfront, or simply walking to dinner together day after day. These aren't friendships built around convenience, they're built around shared experiences, encouragement, and belonging. It's one of the greatest gifts camp has to offer, and one that often lasts long after summer ends.
Today was another fun-filled day at Beber! Campers started the day with hobbies, exploring activities they love while spending time with friends old and new. Although our first hobby period was moved indoors due to the air quality, spirits stayed high, and by the afternoon we were back outside enjoying the fresh air, sunshine, and plenty of smiles.
The dining hall kept everyone fueled throughout the day with some favorite meals, including French toast sticks for breakfast, creamy mac and cheese for lunch, and an indoor BBQ for dinner. Whether gathered around the tables or chatting on the walk between activities, campers made the most of every moment together.
We had a very exciting announcement tonight…tomorrow is Maccabiah! Senior Ramot broke the surprise in front of all of camp in Crown Hall this evening after dinner, and to say our campers are excited is an understatement. I can’t wait to watch the ways in which friendships will grow tomorrow: in the teamwork campers will exhibit during relay races, in the collaboration to design and paint each team’s banner, and in the “Way to Go” cheers from team to team. Tomorrow, we may be Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue, but above all, we are one camp family.
This evening's programs were the perfect way to wrap up an exciting day. Makor campers headed to bed early to rest up for tomorrow's excitement. Meanwhile, Ramot showcased their creativity and confidence during their divisional talent show! Campers sang, danced, played instruments, and cheered each other on in a very fun, supportive evening program.
Kesher gathered in the Amphitheater for a mock trial filled with teamwork, critical thinking to solve the mystery, and lots of laughter. The mystery: someone had stolen the ponies from the farm! Leadership members Brad, Naomi, Dana, and Sari were on trial for the missing ponies, and each cabin got to ask four questions–one to each suspect. The trial concluded in the most surprising way: it turns out Aaron Stinson was the culprit all along! He was handcuffed and driven away in a golf cart, and Kesher can rest comfortably tonight knowing the ponies are back home nice and cozy at the farm.
With Maccabiah just around the corner, the energy at camp is buzzing, and everyone is looking forward to another incredible day at Beber.
