Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't wanna miss it when you hit that high

Week two is off to an incredible start! It was yet another beautiful day here at Beber Camp. With almost no clouds in the sky and perfect temperatures in the mid-70s, everyone could feel the great energy in the air today.

Today marked the exciting beginning of our second round of hobbies, offering campers the chance to dive into new experiences, build their skills, and make even more connections across camp. As always, our friendly giant flappy man stood proudly in the center of the hobby wheel field, ready to direct anyone with questions to the Hobby Director.

One of the things that truly sets Beber apart is the flexibility and variety in our hobby program. Campers get to try out a new hobby on day one, and if it doesn't feel like the right fit, they can switch into something else the next day. With options across every area of camp—arts, athletics, waterfront, outdoor adventure, and more—campers can truly customize their own unique experience. It's a program rooted in choice, growth, and fun.

I stopped by the pool this morning to see what was happening! Synchronized Swimming with Makor was underway, and they performed an adorable routine to "The Boys Are Back" from High School Musical 2. Meanwhile, the Ramot girls in Junior Lifeguarding were focused on learning how to distribute Epipens and other basic lifeguard skills. I think it's fantastic that these two hobbies were created. Even though the Ramot girls aren't old enough to be certified lifeguards yet, learning these fundamental skills now will be extremely beneficial for them in a few years.

Check out the camper podcast from our first week of hobbies! Here's yesterday’s episode, created entirely by our campers. If you can't listen right now, no worries. It’ll be available soon on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

CIT Aleph spent their day interning for both the first and second hobby periods, then had dedicated CITime for their third. CIT Bet started their day by interning during the first hobby. For their second hobby, they enjoyed an "Ages and Stages Jeopardy" game, and then used their CITime during the third hobby to work on their project.

Today’s Meals

Breakfast: Waffles
Lunch: Mac & Cheese with Mozzarella Sticks
Dinner: Brisket on Pretzel Rolls with Curly Fries

During lunch today, we had an exciting event to celebrate Beber Camp's 50th anniversary! Not only did we give out party hats and glasses, but we also asked Kesher and Ramot campers to stay at flagpole (after blessing the meal) to form a giant "50" on Crown Hall field. Our drone captured a fantastic shot from high above, showing all the campers and staff waving within the "50" formation. What a fun and creative way to celebrate 50 amazing years!

Evening programs:

  • Makor: Talent Show in Crown Hall!
  • Kesher: Villains and heroes on Crown Hall field! Campers enjoyed a new take on "predator and prey" with their "Villains and Heroes" evening program! Campers were assigned roles as either superheroes or villains. The game was a strategic version of tag: certain groups could "eat" (tag) others, and if tagged, you'd join their team. The kids loved this friendly game of competitive tag, and running around chasing each other was definitely a fan favorite!
  • Ramot campers embarked on a fun Restaurant Scavenger Hunt! The hunt culminated in them creating their own "restaurant mascots." These mascots were based on the "menu" they designed during the first week, which outlined their goals for the summer.
  • Our PIOs spent their beautiful day having a blast at Noah's Ark!
  • Meanwhile, the CITs Bet enjoyed a relaxing and calming "Spa Day" for their evening program, which was followed by a fun round of "blind karaoke" later that night for both CIT Aleph and Bet.

"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is all about excitement and not wanting to miss a single moment, that's exactly the energy buzzing through Beber Camp as we dive into Week Two. With new hobbies igniting creativity, evening programs sparking laughter, and friendships blossoming at every turn, there's no way anyone wants to miss out on the incredible adventures ahead. We're already "going-going" strong, and can't wait to see what amazing moments unfold as we continue this unforgettable summer journey together!
