Beber in the community: Indianapolis and Northshore Congregation Israel
With the New Year upon us, and the leaves changing colors, it is officially the beginning of the camp recruitment cycle. This past weekend we were visiting two of our communities promoting Beber!
Sunday, October 12, 2014 Brad Robinson was down in Indianapolis, at the Indy JCC for the first Jewish Camp Fair held in the building. Beber was one of six camps represented at the fair. This was the first fair in Indianapolis and it gave our community a chance to come out and talk with Brad and we even had one of our staff to be Moriah Atlas come out to say hi. It was great to see some first time Beber campers and even some old alumni at the fair.
On Saturday, October 11, 2014, Joel Bennett played games and led icebreakers for Northshore Congregation Israel’s “Camp at NSCI” program. This year-round youth group is targeted at NSCI’s 3rd and 4th grade religious school students. The evening’s activites included making decorations for the sukkah, learning about the congregational clergy, Havdallah, and dirt cake! The “campers” also watched a video co-created by Beber’s own Tilly Friedman and featured Mr. and Mrs. Milon searching for a sukkah, House Hunters-style. It was a fun night and great to connect with many young kids, passionate about their Judaism!
Though most of the spots at Beber are currently filled for Summer 2015, there are a handful of spaces available for younger campers. That being said, if you or any of your friends have campers who will be in elementary school next year that might be interested in going to Beber we would be happy to talk to them.
We are always looking for ways to stay engaged with our Beber communities across the country. If you know of an upcoming camp fair or event that you think would be good to have a Beber presence we would love to hear about it!
