School of Rock at Beber – Spring Break
To me, Beber Camp is all about rock and roll. Of course, that’s probably because I never leave Crown Hall! (We have a lake?!? Who knew!)
I’m Russell Wiener, and I ran the Beber Camp music program from 2007 till 2015. During that time I had the pleasure of watching campers pick up an instrument for the very first time during a camp hobby… and then go on to become a music specialist years later, teaching young future rockers how to do their thing!
For the last two years the brilliant music and audio Jedi Will Jarvis has been the Music Director, and when I’m at camp we work together to continue improving the program, and rock-and-rolling all night (or at least until the Kaplans go to bed!).
This spring I will have the great pleasure of directing an alternative Spring break program called School of Rock. It will take place at Beber over spring break, and I will be planning and running it along with Beber’s totally-jammin’ Executive Director Stefan Teodosic. Will Jarvis will be there to lay down the sounds, too.
Chicagoland Jewish 9th and 10th graders can sign up to be a part of this sure-to-be amazing week from March 27-31. It is open to Beber campers as well as those who have never been to Beber, so this is an awesome chance to introduce your school friends to camp! Participants will have fun performing songs in bands, writing music, recording, and hearing from guest speakers and performers with real-world music experience and success. It will be a program unlike any other, building skills, confidence, as well as enjoying one non-music activity per day.
Just head to SpringboardChicago.org to see more and sign up for this great opportunity. Feel free to send any questions to our new Assistant Director, Abby Mintz at firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook if you have questions.
Rock on and seeya there!
