I’m David Bornstein. I’ve been going to Beber Camp for 5 years now and I really like it. Some of my favorite hobbies include: water skiing, sailing and the three day climbing trip. My counselors are great, and I have made so many friends there that will last a lifetime. I look forward to going back to 3BC every summer.

I recently had my Bar-Mitzvah. For my Bar-Mitzvah project I chose to raise money for the Beber Camp Scholarship Fund.  I want other people who may not be able to go to camp due to financial issues to be able to have the same great Beber experiences that I have had and look forward to every summer.

To accomplish my Bar-Mitzvah project goal of supporting the Scholarship Fund, I held a series of basketball games and tournaments. I charged $5 for admission and sold drinks and candy to raise extra money. We gave away small prizes that camp donated, as well as some candy prizes.  We had kids ranging in age from 6-14 years old. Everyone had a great time! All of the money raised went to the Beber Camp Scholarship Fund. To spread the word I had my parents post all over Facebook and I spoke to each class at Hebrew school and told them about Beber and why I was raising money.  I gave out flyers to all the Hebrew School kids inviting them to the fundraiser. Camp worked with me to create a donation website so that people could learn more about my project, sign up for the fundraiser and make online donations. In the end I raised over $700 for the Beber Camp Scholarship Fund – I would call that a success!

If you want to do a similar Bar or Bat Mitzvah project to raise money for the Beber Camp Scholarship Fund, you can email Elli Krandel at, or talk to me next summer at camp!
