Job Descriptions

Staff at Beber Camp are split into several different classifications: Counselors, Specialists, Head Staff, Area Directors and Division Leaders.  Check out more information about each of the categories below.

Counselors
Counselors and Associate Counselors
Counselors and Associate Counselors are primarily responsible for the care and well-being of the campers.  They live in cabins with campers, plan evening programs, assist Specialists with Hobbies, and act as role models.  

Required Dates:
June 14th - August 14th, 2009

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Senior Counselors must have completed one year of college or be at least age 19 by summer 2009.

  • Associate Counselors must have graduated High School or be age 18 by summer 2009.

  • Experience working with children preferred.

Senior Counselors
Associate Counselors  

Staff Kid Counselors
Some staff members at Beber are married and have young children.  Some of these children are too young to be placed in cabins and live with the other campers.  Staff-Kid Counselors are responsible for the care and well-being of those children.  

Required Dates:
June 14th - August 14th, 2009

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Staff Kid Counselors must have graduated High School or be age 18 by summer 2009.

  • Previous experience working with children age 2-7 in a formal environment such as a nursery, school or aftercare program.

Staff-Kid Counselors

Specialists
Specialists are the backbone of Beber Camp's daily activity program, called Hobbies.  Just like counselors, they live in cabins with campers and are responsible for their care.  Together with counselors, they plan programs and act as role models.  Specialists must have a background and expertise in the particular Hobby that they teach.  For more, see below:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least age 18 by summer 2009
  • Education, certification, or an extensive background in specialty area
  • Previous teaching experience with children preferred
  • Additional qualifications depending on the specialty

Head Staff
Head staff share many of the same responsibilities as counselors: living in cabins with campers, charged with caring for the campers and looking after their welfare.  In addition to those responsibilities, Head Staff have additional leadership, programming, and instructional responsibilities - as noted below.

June 12th - August 14th, 2009

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least age 20 by summer 2009
  • Previous camp counselor experience
  • Additional qualifications depending on the position

Head Counselor
Judaics Director

Area Directors
Beber Camp's Area Directors supervise Hobby programs and Cabin Activities areas at camp.  They are also responsible for supervising other staff members.   

Required Dates:
June 7th - August 16th, 2009


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least age 21 by summer 2009
  • Education, certification, or an extensive background in specific program area
  • Experience working with children
  • Previous camp experience preferred

Arts & Crafts Director
Waterfront Director
Pool Director

Division Leaders:
Division Leaders manage a camp division consisting of 60-110 campers and 12-24 staff.  They are responsible for the well-being of all the campers and staff in their charge.    

Required Dates:

June 7th - August 16th, 2009

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 20 years old by summer 2009
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Previous overnight camp counselor experience

Basic Overview:
Manage a division consisting of:
60-110 campers
12-24 counselors
Supervise a Head Counselor
Supervise counselors
Support your campers
Communicate with camper parents
Develop agendas and run meetings for your counselors
Plan and lead divisional overnight camping trips and day trips for campers and staff in your division
Supervise staff once/week during Shomer (Beber’s system for watching campers during periods when staff have time off)
